Chris Kostov, professor of International Relations and Modern History at Schiller International University's Madrid campus, has found his own way to help Ukraine in this time of despair. Here he tells us how teaching helps him build bridges with a community of Ukrainian students.

On the one-year anniversary of the start of the Ukrainian war, we sat down with our newest recruit, Halyna Malygina, who came to Spain fleeing the war with her children. This is her story.

This past Tuesday February14 I had the opportunity to participate in the annual innovation conference Synapse Summit 2023 (Synapse Summit 2023 - Synapse Florida).

On 6 February 2023, Schiller students from the Paris campus went on an artistic journey coupled with an interactive and sensory experience at “MATERIALS”, the first exhibition dedicated to the French artist Bruno Catalano which looks back on 30 years of sculpture.

This past month, the “School for Dreamers”, series by professor José Pinto, had a very special guest. We were honored to welcome Alberto Cabanes, from Adopta Un Abuelo (Adopt a Grandparent), to our Madrid campus.

Professor Duncan Richard Shaw’s American Foreign Policy class at our Madrid campus received an engaging speaker recently. Professor Erik Baum, of Suffolk University, gave a masterclass titled “The Positive and Negative Aspects of US Foreign Policy Today”.

Heraclitus said this over 2,500 years ago, and today, given the dizzying pace at which society, technology, digitalization, and innovation are advancing, this statement remains a resounding truth. A reality that implies the emergence of constant challenges (economic, cultural, political, or environmental) that we must be able to face as a society, and be able to adapt to them. 

On 1 December 2022, Schiller International University organized an IRD Global Talk on the topic “Current Developments in the Western Balkans & EU Accession Processes”. This talk, given by Dr. Alenka Verbole, explored what the Western Balkans region is, as well as its characteristics and specificities in light of the lengthy EU accession process. Emphasis was laid on developments, challenges, and stakeholders, in the region and beyond, looking at the six countries (WB6) that are Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and Kosovo**.

On 18 November 2022, Schiller International University organized a global online seminar to discuss the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union that entered into force in 2018 and is widely seen as a ‘gold standard’ for personal data protection. 

Schiller International University has reached an agreement with the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER) and the Association of Rugby Players (APOME), by which they make available to the federated players 5 scholarships for the Master of Science in Sustainability, which will begin on November 21.

We are approaching a very important date for all of us in the United States. September 17^th is our Constitution Day and Citizenship Day.  This day commemorates the September 17, 1787 signing of the United States Constitution.  

We already know that we live in a global world. Just like we know that today's professionals must be able to broaden their perspective so they can be global as well. 

The world we live in is rapidly changing, borders between territories are becoming increasingly blurred, and connections between countries are rapidly growing stronger. Globalization is a reality.
