Why did you choose Schiller International University?

Alumni Spotlight Bander MomenahAfter a brief stint at another university, a friend’s recommendation led me to Schiller, and it was the right call from day one. The multinational student community, the dedication of the faculty and staff, the multicampus opportunities, and the relevance of the programs to real market needs all left a lasting mark on my professional journey, one I still feel today.

"Choosing Schiller remains one of the best decisions of my life."

You studied at both Florida (Dunedin) and Waterloo campuses. How do you think experiencing two different campuses shape your personal and professional development?

While the academic experience was consistent across both campuses, studying in two different countries sharpened my adaptability and deepened my appreciation for each country’s professional and cultural standards. It’s also where I grew as a leader: at Dunedin, I served as Activities Coordinator on the Students Council, and in London, I was elected President.

How do you think the multicultural environment at Schiller prepared you for working with people from different backgrounds and cultures?

This experience has been priceless.

"Exposure to different cultures and perspectives was one of the most influential parts of my journey at Schiller and became a foundation for how I collaborate, communicate, and build relationships throughout my career."

You decided to specialize in Business Communication during your time at Schiller. How did the support and guidance you received from the university influence your career path in media, advertising, and public relations?

For the first three years of my bachelor’s degree, I genuinely didn’t know where my career was headed. Slowly, an interest in marketing and specifically in communication and promotion began to take shape. It was Dr. Liz Nunn, who sadly passed away a few years ago, who helped me turn that interest into a real career path. Together, we identified the MA in Business Communications as the right fit. The program rich in theory, agency practice, and industry field visits was ahead of its time. More than twenty years later, that decision continues to shape and reward my professional journey, and I remain deeply grateful for it.

You recently launched your own media consulting company, BanderMedia, specializing in media planning and buying across the MENA region. How did your experience at Schiller prepare you to navigate the challenges of building your own business?

The program I chose at Schiller laid the foundation for my entire career, but it’s really the collective experience of academic, social, and leadership that shaped how I navigate challenges and pursue success today, including the courage to launch BanderMedia.

Following your experience working in the MENA media landscape, what opportunities do you see emerging for businesses, entrepreneurs, and young professionals in the region?

Despite recent political turbulence, which I believe will ease and bring greater stability, the MENA region holds enormous potential. Countries across the region are investing heavily in infrastructure to stay globally competitive, the UAE hosted Expo 2020, Qatar delivered the 2022 World Cup, Morocco is co-hosting 2030, and Saudi Arabia will host both Expo 2030 and the 2034 World Cup. Beyond the headline events, this is backed by real momentum on the ground: initiatives like Hub71 in Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia’s PIF-backed venture funds are actively channeling capital and support toward entrepreneurs and SMEs, which is where I believe the most direct opportunity lies for young professionals entering the market today. Combined with rapid advances in digital and AI technology, the region is poised for a new wave of business opportunities for local and international businesses. In media specifically, stronger and more sustainable regulations (locally & globally) will be key to helping local and smaller players compete with major tech companies and agencies.

Digital transformation has reshaped the media landscape in recent years. What do you see as the most significant changes affecting brands, agencies, and communication professionals today?

Digital transformation has clearly lowered the barrier to entry; businesses today can launch and reach wider audiences with far less investment than 20 years ago. But the ecosystem has also grown more complex, demanding greater investment in tools, security, privacy, and sustainable profitability, it’s no longer an easy game. As regulation on Big Tech companies tightens, and governments and private institutions increasingly support smaller businesses, I expect local media and agencies to become significantly more competitive, reshaping how major agencies, media houses, and tech companies operate going forward.

You recently participated in the first edition of Schiller’s Pegasus Mentoring Program. What motivated you to become involved in mentorship and support current Schiller students?

Sharing knowledge is a responsibility I genuinely enjoy. I already trained young professionals in the field and taught media and advertising courses at a local college, but mentoring Schiller students felt different, it was a chance to give back to the university that shaped who I am. Alumni aren’t just former students; we’re family, and with that comes a responsibility to contribute.

What would you say was the most rewarding aspect of mentoring current students through the program?

Seeing the students directly benefit from real-world insights, watching their confidence grow, and receiving their genuine appreciation is the ultimate reward.

With rapid advances in technology and AI transforming the media industry, what skills and mindset should young professionals develop to remain relevant in the future of media and communications?

"Continuous learning is non-negotiable; knowledge is everything in this AI-driven transformation."

Young professionals, whether in Marketing Communications, or any other discipline need to stay current and embrace the right tools. But equally important is discipline: thoroughly evaluating every opportunity before investing in it, since the landscape will keep evolving. And never lose sight of regulatory and legal considerations along the way.
