At Schiller International University’s Heidelberg Campus, students recently had the unique opportunity to engage directly with the world of international diplomacy. The highlight of the session was a guest lecture featuring Stefan Ionkov, Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Munich, offering firsthand insights into the practice and responsibilities of diplomacy.

Bridging Theory and Practice on DiplomacyThe lecture was co-organized and moderated by Manuela Toteva, PhD, Global Marketing Content Manager at SAP and adjunct faculty member at Schiller International University and the Technical University of Ilmenau. Dr. Toteva guided a dynamic discussion, linking academic concepts to practical diplomatic experiences.

During the session, Mr. Ionkov explored key aspects of a Consul General’s work, including career pathways in international diplomacy and the important connections between diplomatic engagement and investment attraction. Students actively participated, asking thoughtful questions and engaging in a conversation grounded in real-world practices.

Moments like these illustrate the critical value of bridging academic learning with professional expertise. By connecting students with senior practitioners, universities can provide experiences that go beyond textbooks, fostering understanding, inspiration, and professional curiosity.

The session was a success thanks to Mr. Ionkov’s openness, the students’ enthusiasm, and the collaborative effort of the organizing team. Events like this underscore Schiller International University’s commitment to integrating academic excellence with global professional experience.
