Veterans Day 2025: Honoring Service and Community Skip to main content Skip to footer

Today, November 11, we commemorate Veterans Day, an opportunity to pause, reflect, and honor the contributions of veterans and their families within our Schiller International University community. Our institution is deeply enriched by the presence of students, faculty, and staff who have served in the armed forces, as well as the loved ones who have stood beside them with unwavering support.

Since 1954, when President Eisenhower proclaimed November 11 as Veterans Day, the United States has honored its veterans in recognition of their service, dedication, and commitment to the values of freedom and democracy. An American veteran is anyone who has served honorably in one of the eight uniformed military services, and their integrity, perseverance, and sense of duty inspire all of us.

At Schiller, we believe that honoring our veterans is deeply connected to our commitment to peace and mutual understanding among nations. Their example reminds us that true and lasting peace is founded on respect for the rights, dignity, and security of all people. Veterans embody these principles through their dedication to service and community and today, we honor their commitment to the ideals of freedom, the pursuit of democracy, and the well-being of others above their own.

Diversity is one of Schiller’s core values. While we often speak of diversity in terms of culture, identity, or belief, it is also expressed through the richness of personal experiences. Our veteran students, in particular, bring unique perspectives shaped by leadership, discipline, and resilience. Their global outlook, teamwork, and lived experience of service contribute to the intercultural learning environment that defines Schiller. They stand among us as examples of confidence, composure, and compassion and we are grateful for how their presence broadens our understanding of commitment, courage, and community.

We recognize that veterans have made profound personal sacrifices, spending time away from loved ones, facing challenges in transition, and, in many cases, carrying lasting effects from their service. Schiller proudly stands beside all our veterans, ensuring their educational paths remain uninterrupted and that they feel supported every step of the way.

In line with our mission to provide accessible, high-quality education, Schiller remains steadfast in supporting our veteran students, especially during challenging times. We are aware that the current government shutdown has caused delays in benefits and services for some veterans. Nevertheless, Schiller is fully committed to honoring the government’s promise regarding tuition support and will continue to advocate for our veterans’ access to the educational opportunities and benefits they have earned through their service

On this Veterans Day, please join me in expressing gratitude to the honored veterans in our Schiller family. Your dedication, resilience, and diverse experiences enrich our community and exemplify the values we cherish as a global institution. Today and every day, let us honor your contributions and ensure that Schiller continues to be a place where all voices and perspectives help build a better, more understanding world.
