Why did you choose Schiller?

Alumni Spotlight on Eloise ThomasI chose Schiller International University because of its truly global approach to education. As an international student from the island of Dominica, the opportunity to study in a multicultural environment alongside students and faculty from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds was especially meaningful to me. Schiller’s emphasis on practical learning, cross-cultural engagement, and international perspectives aligned perfectly with my interest in hospitality, tourism, and global business, making it a natural choice for a globally focused education.

Can you share some of your fondest memories from your time at Schiller International University?

My fondest memories include engaging in intellectually rich classroom discussions with a diverse, international student body, participating in collaborative projects that mirrored real-world global business challenges, and building meaningful relationships with faculty who were deeply committed to student development. While pursuing my MBA at the Largo Campus in Florida, I also served as an Online Registrar, an experience that provided valuable insight into Schiller’s academic operations and reinforced the institution’s commitment to accessibility and student support across international locations. These experiences, both inside and outside the classroom, helped shape my global perspective and professional approach.

How would you describe the spirit and culture of Schiller during your years on campus?

Schiller’s culture was open, inclusive, and intellectually curious. There was a strong sense of mutual respect among students from different countries, cultures, and professional aspirations. The university fostered an environment where global awareness, adaptability, and critical thinking were not just encouraged but expected.

Despite the changes, what aspects of Schiller do you think have remained the same?

Schiller’s commitment to international education and cross-cultural understanding has remained constant. The emphasis on preparing students to operate confidently in global environments continues to define the institution.

Are there any qualities of the Schiller education that you believe continue to benefit students today?

Absolutely. Schiller’s focus on practical application, cultural intelligence, and global communication skills continues to benefit students. These qualities are increasingly valuable in today’s interconnected world, where employers seek professionals who can navigate complexity and diversity with confidence.

How has your education at Schiller played a role in your life since graduation?

My education at Schiller laid the foundation for my professional journey in hospitality, business, and consulting by fostering a global mindset, cultural sensitivity, and a systems-based approach to problem-solving. The international perspective I gained has been instrumental in working across sectors, particularly in nonprofit and consulting environments where understanding diverse stakeholders and global contexts is essential. This foundation has also influenced my current pursuit of board certification in health coaching, as it aligns with Schiller’s emphasis on holistic development, service, and sustainable impact. The ability to connect business strategy with human well-being continues to shape my professional path and approach to leadership.

What do you consider to be the most valuable aspect of your Schiller experience?

The most valuable aspect was learning how to think globally while acting strategically. Schiller taught me how to approach challenges with cultural sensitivity, analytical rigor, and adaptability—skills that continue to shape my professional and personal life.

What advice would you give to current students to help them make the most of their Schiller experience?

I encourage students to fully embrace the international nature of Schiller. Engage with classmates from different backgrounds, participate actively in discussions, and take advantage of opportunities to apply learning beyond the classroom. The relationships and perspectives you gain will be just as valuable as the degree itself.

As an International Hospitality and Tourism Management graduate working as a consultant for a non-profit organization, what would you recommend to current students aiming for a similar career?

As an International Hospitality and Tourism Management graduate with an MBA in International Hotel and Tourism Management, now working in nonprofit consulting and the health and wellness field as an integrative nutrition coach, I encourage students to build strong business skills and cultural awareness. Seek internships or volunteer roles that expose you to mission driven work, stay adaptable, and stay purpose focused. The hospitality skill set is incredibly versatile and can open doors to consulting, development, wellness, and leadership careers when paired with a commitment to service and impact.
