Schiller students at The European Commission in Brussels

Schiller students at The European Commission in Brussels

This week 29 Schiller students attending International Relations and Diplomacy programs and 2 instructors left Heidelberg to drive to Brussels. Everyone was welcomed at the Commission to listen to three presentations covering key issues of the European Union. The start was a presentation dealing with the Commission as the political executive of the European Union. The second presentation dealt with the “improvement of industry’s competitiveness and fostering growth, innovation and job creation” and the final one with “EU development cooperation”. Lively discussions between presenters and us ensured that all stayed involved and everyone felt that the visit was a success.

Follow Up IDEA BOX session

All students who participated in the first SPONSORT Idea Box Session in December (or any student with an idea about how to make Heidelberg a better community)! On Wednesday the 18th of January between 4 and 6 pm, local crowdfunding company SPONSORT will return to SIU and invites you to share a local problem and combine your talents and passions in order to come up with a solution. Coaches from local enterprises as well as representatives from the city will join the Idea Box session to give their feedback on executing these ideas. What we ask you to do as a preparation for the session: * Form groups of three to five people * Think about how you feel about life at Schiller or the city of Heidelberg in general * Come up with a shortcoming or a problem you think should be solved What happens in the session: You will work with a personal coach from a local enterprise. He or she will inject more honesty in the process of idea creation by driving some debate. With the support of your coach you will be able to plan and execute a campaign around your idea. What comes next: You are encouraged to start a crowdfunding campaign for your idea in order to bump their idea up against reality and see for themselves the strengths and weaknesses of your particular approach. Because crowdfunding is all about communicating the core message to the public, you need to be clear so that your community understands it and supports the respective idea financially. Within a battle period of 30 days your crowdfunding campaign has to reach the set amount. You can use all money that was collected in order to execute your project. The team who has reached the amount in the shortest time period, receives twice the amount as an additional prize from SPONSORT.
