Our esteemed faculty here at Schiller’s Madrid Campus is always looking for ways to show our students the different business opportunities waiting for them outside these campus walls. One of the most appealing is of course, the path of entrepreneurship. Although this option might seemingly be “on trend” to some, it is nevertheless, a very challenging route. This is why we never miss the chance of bringing interesting startups, entrepreneurs, and CEO’s who think outside of the box, to come and share their experience in our SIU Talks with our hopeful and future business owners.
On Thursday, February 8th, our students met and heard from Fon de Luján, one of the founders and CEO’s of Parafina Co, a company that manufactures and sells sunglasses made of recycled materials and donates a fraction of their proceeds to NGO’s that improve and implement schools in underprivileged countries.
These are not simply good deeds that the company executes, but are rather pillars of their global mission. Socially aware and eco-friendly, Parafina Co, has found its place in the Business to Business market as a provider for retailers such as El Corte Inglés, the Spanish superpower that forms the largest department store group in Europe and ranks fourth worldwide. Parafina has also collaborated with different brands such as Chupa Chups.
De Lujan was extremely candid during his SIU Talk, and opened up to the students about some of their failures and struggles and shared about how they grew and learned from those experiences. He also encouraged our students to create something new and gave them key tools on how to accomplish their goals by answering questions during the final Q&A.

The necessity of confronting and facing real-life and professional situations is one of the most challenging and stimulating experiences for a student. Therefore, Schiller International University’s Madrid campus will host a special session where students from all over the world will hear from a national successful company with great future projections.
After welcoming companies such as El Ganso, One Oak brand and Yamimoto, our International Business program course on Multicultural Competency for Business will host Parafina & Co, a disruptive brand that creates sunglasses and RX eyewear which blend unique and eco-friendly materials with a radical inspiration and a strong social trigger. During the session, Fon de Luján, one of its co-creators, will share with the students everything about Parafina & Co’s business project and the challenge of creating a successful model.
Throughout the duration of the course, the students will have the opportunity to design, structure and present several international market expansion plans adapted to the brand’s DNA. Every participant will pick a different country and present the expansion proposal to the CEO. Thanks to their proposal, Parafina & Co will get useful and key considerations regarding their expansion process.

At Schiller International University we are constantly looking for opportunities to prepare our students for the world of employment beyond graduation. This means helping them understand the job market, giving them a perspective on how to access key intership positions and get their foot in the door for new employment.
Among all the options available when considering where to establish your future career, certainly one of the most appealing is the United States. However, understanding corporate America, as well as the particularities of their foreign policies regarding placement can prove to be challenging. In order to best equip our students, on February 12th we will host an informative workshop on Employment and Internships in the US.
The speaker for this event, organized by our Career Services Department, is Lucía Viudes, founder and CEO of Travelingua. Lucía is an expert on multicultural communication, with a background in translation and interpretation. She furthered her carreer in Immigration, Nationality and Migration laws and has extensive experience with work practices in the UK, Germany, France, and Spain.

Every year Schiller Madrid prepares an activity called Food Without Borders, held by Professor José Pinto as a part of our Cross-Cultural Communication class. This event is also frequented by all of our Madrid students and staff, as it is difficult to resist the enticing aromas floating around campus that day. Participants from our diverse student body each bring something to the table related to their culture, and the best dish wins a prize by popular vote.
Professor Pinto is an expert on multicultural communication and teaches his students the do’s and don’ts of doing business on a global scale, an integral part of our International Business program. For their final project, students are divided into groups and have to open a Schiller campus in a country of their choice. Aside from the hard work this project entails, there is the added pressure of the groups having to present in front of the President of Schiller International University, Dr. Manuel Alonso Puig, along with other esteemed members of the faculty. This years winning team brought forth the idea of opening a new Schiller Campus in Seoul, South Korea. Who knows, perhaps that’s where we’ll see Schiller’s next campus!
– MBA Lunch at El Viso
During this time of the year many of us join to celebrate the holidays and to reflect on how the year has been. It is for that specific reason, that our Faculty organized an MBA and faculty lunch this last Friday, December 15th.
The main purpose of the activity was to generate a sense of community amongst all the MBA students. This was important for multiple reasons but particularly to show a token of appreciation, have a more relaxed conversational level environment with some of the faculty and bring a sense of unity between the students themselves and their professors.
With this lunch we also brought students together, particularly our international students that have no relatives close by, thus developing a sense of unity and team among the students. Not only that, but also it was the perfect opportunity to listen to their experience here on campus and their opinion about the school in general. Gathering ideas, advice and recommendations of students beyond formal surveys and exit interviews and generally getting to know them on a more personal level.
In conclusion, it was a great opportunity to give everyone at our University that personal attention we are known for. It was also a good moment to reflect on 2017, create a clear vision for the year to come.
