Undergraduate Admissions Requirements
Schiller International University receives applications from almost every country in the world, representing a great variety of educational systems. For entrance to the university applicants must have completed the secondary level of education, generally 12 years.
Applications are handled individually. An applicant's race, religion, national origin, sex or country of citizenship are not taken into consideration in determining admission to the university program.
The minimum age for applicants to degree programs is 18 years. If admission of an applicant under the age of 18 is denied by the university, an appeal can be filed by a parent or legal guardian of the applicant. The appeal will then be reviewed by the Campus Academic Committee and a decision made in the best interest of both the university and the applicant. If the denial of admission is overturned, the university requires a student's parent or legal guardian to honor all obligations under any contracts with the university that the student enters into prior to their 18th birthday. The parent or legal guardian consents to honor all student obligations by signing the appropriate form as required by the university.
Schiller International University offers students with little or no knowledge of English the opportunity to enroll in an intensive English program at the Largo, Florida campus. After successfully completing this course, students will be able to follow lectures and do all their course work in English.
Before registration, all new students whose native language is not English are required to take the English Language Placement Test.
On the basis of this test, students will be placed in the appropriate English language class or their Foreign Language requirement will be waived altogether. Students who are placed in Advanced English will be awarded 4 to 8 credits, and those who are exempted from further English language instruction will receive 12 to 16 credits. All qualified students will receive University credits for their English language courses taken at Schiller International University.
Undergraduate students who have received a TOEFL score of at least 500 (or 173 for the computerized TOEFL test) during the last two years can be accepted into university studies without further EFL requirements. However, to receive EFL credits, these students must take the SIU English Placement Exam prior to their first registration at SIU as described above. Please also note that students must have had their official TOEFL scores sent directly to Schiller International University's U.S. Admissions Office from the Educational Testing Service prior to registration.
Unofficial or student copies are not acceptable. SIU's TOEFL I.D. number is 0835.
Students who have completed only 10 or 11 years of formal education may apply to the high school program at the campuses where these programs are offered. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be admitted to the first-year class of the university.
Applicants who have worked full-time should submit a curriculum vitae (résumé) containing names and addresses of their employers, dates of employment, job titles and a short description of duties.
Graduate Admissions Requirements
Applicants must have a Bachelor degree or its equivalent, with a major in the graduate area for which they are applying. Students with undergraduate degrees in another field may be required to complete preparatory courses. For entry into the MIM, the applicant may hold a Bachelor degree in any field.
Applicants must have maintained a good academic record in their undergraduate studies. If the applicant has below a 2.4 undergraduate GPA, a minimum GMAT score of 450 is required for entry into the degree program and a provisional admission will be granted. During the provisional admission, the student is required to take up to 5 senior-level undergraduate courses and receive a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the term. If the requirements are satisfactorily met, the student will be admitted to the degree program.
Non-native English speakers must pass the SIU English Placement Test to enter the graduate program or provide scores of at least 550 (or 213 for the computerized TOEFL test) on a TOEFL test taken within the previous two years. Students must have their official TOEFL scores sent directly to SIU's U.S. Admissions Office prior to their first registration at Schiller International University. Unofficial or student copies of TOEFL scores cannot be accepted. Schiller International University's TOEFL I.D. number is 0835.
Enrollment in the prescribed English classes is required upon registration for the first and all subsequent terms at Schiller International University and cannot be postponed.
Please note - Graduate students who are required to take additional English courses based on their test results are required to pay for the English courses in addition to the university courses.
All graduate students are required to have a laptop computer. The laptop must be Pentium-based with a 28.8 speed modem, the usual office software (Suggested: Windows XP or higher) and WIFI capability. Proof of ownership of such a laptop is required at the student's first registration. Schiller International University will make laptops available for a fee if a student does not already own one.
Applicants who have worked full-time should submit a résumé containing name and address of their employers, dates of employment, job title and a short description of duties.
